Facebook + IDX = ??
Ok. I got asked by a friend about “Facebook IDX” today and I thought rather than answer him in private, I would answer him in public on this page. So buckle up, here goes.
The premise is pretty simple: If I put a way for people to search for homes ON my Facebook page, then people will go to it (as opposed to my real estate website) and they will look at homes there and (eventually) become a customer. Yeah, umm no.
Here’s the thing.
Facebook IDX in actuality does this. It adds a Home Search tab to your BUSINESS page at Facebook. And you can add an integrated Facebook Tab that says “Find a Home”. Great. Splendid.
But what is the #1 compaint about Facebook? That you have to drive people to a “business page” and that that is costing more and more $$$ to do. So you advertise and advertise to get them to a business page where there is an integrated tab. On a social media site where people are NOT looking for homes.
You can advertise to take them DIRECTLY to your ACTUAL site, tell them that is what you are doing and make it a clear advetisement so that IF they go, their EXPECTATION is that they are leaving Facebook and heading to look at houses.
That last option would be my preference.
And for an additional pet peeve that I have with this approach, the company (at least the one that I looked at) who is doing this, is also adding it as its own IDX website. So all they have done is A) Re-create your website B) Create an easy to integrate into FB version of the IDX and c) Sold it back to you as ANOTHER IDX
Ok those are my thoughts…what are yours?
