Ok. I am headed to NY for Inman this next week and to work on finishing some REALLY good technology stuff with a brokerage where we have been putting together tools for their agents that are WORLD CLASS. Going to be fun. However, all I seem to be seeing in Inman and the other media outlets is all about drones.
If you think a drone is going to help your business, fine. If you think it MAY get you a listing and thus be worth what you spent, fine as well. But be forewarned before you spend your money and time trying to figure out how to get the gimbal working and the camera shot steady, that there is someone taking a different path to real estate and the tech that sells it who will be eating your lunch.
Who is it? It is the guy who does NOT have shiny object syndrome. It is a REALTOR who is making small incremental improvements to their website, to their follow up, to their ability to reach more people and who is marketing to an increasing percentage of their target market.
Seriously. That is FAR more valuable than someone who is using a technology gimmick.
Someone who is using Listing Lead Capture sites similar to this one in New Jersey. Or who is using Mandrill or similar products to improve how many people actually open the emails that they send. The people that do this sort of thing are quiet. They work hard. And they grind it out. They sell and connect like there is no tomorrow, because for them tomorrow only comes when they succeed today.
They understand that it is less about the shiny object and the silver bullet, as it is the work ethic and the steady application of learned principles. THAT is my wish for you in 2014. Become THAT type of REALTOR. Hang out with THOSE types of REALTORS. And I have no doubt that 2014 will be a great year.
