In a blast from the past, 4 of America’s great historical figures will visit Greenville. Patriot Patrick Henry, President Truman, Civil War nurse Clara Barton and South Carolina statesman Robert Smalls will be featured at the Greenville Chautauqua Festival, which begins this Friday and will run until June 22.
The show, “Rising to the Occasion” features these historical figures and uses professional actors to portray them. They will take questions and answer as the person would have done. The actors have studied these characters for months and bring little known details to light about them. For example, the Patriot Patrick Henry opposed the original Constitution, because it didn’t include a bill of rights for individuals. The Bill of Rights that we know and love was done in large measure because of him.
