A real estate broker has started his own MLS. The fight started when his son started campaigning to recruit agents, but his son is not a Realtor. Many of the other brokers in the market were upset, and reported their activities. NAR became involved and told them that what they were doing was unethical. Basically, if any member of a brokerage is to participate in the MLS, then all members also need to participate in the MLS.
Well, Larry Mayall had other ideas. So he said he’s done with it and started his own MLS in Tennessee. As of today, they have 500 listings. It’ll be interesting to see if this can gain any traction. Many brokers have threatened similar actions after being satisfied with NAR, particularly after NAR started Realtor.com to compete with brokerages.
