Over the course of the past year, about the opportunity to make many new friends. As 2013 comes to a close, and as Christmas approaches, it gives me time to reflect. It is been a good year, and much of that is due to technology.
Because of the profession I choose, and tools such as WordPress that I create with, I’ve been able to connect with many new friends this year and that has been gratifying. I was able to travel to Serbia, make a new friend in Sweden, connect with a Facebook group of outstanding online marketers in California, and many other unique opportunities that wouldn’t have been available before. I was able to be a small part of a benefit for a Children’s Hospice in Virginia. I was able to do webinars and add new clients in many states all from my office. I was able to keep in touch with my sons while they were away from home, not just hear them, but see them. Technology is at its best when it brings us together.
So this got me thinking about how we use technology as REALTORS. Are we using it to connect with other people? Are we using it to further our relationships with others around us and even bring new people into our lives? Or are we using it to disconnect from the people closest to us?
One of my new friends Vladimir from Belgrade Serbia made a great point on his Facebook today. The latest Apple ad shows a boy actually reluctant to be close to his own grandfather, by choosing instead to work on an electronic device. Granted at the end of the ad, he creates a video for his family. But throughout the holiday festivities, he was pretty much a recluse on the couch and he misses out on the human interaction and the love that comes from people connecting with one another.
My Christmas wish for each of you is that you take some time and unplugged from technology and connect with those people around you who matter to you most. There will always be time to create things on your iPad or your laptop after the holidays are done. But there will never be another chance to connect with the grandparents in your life or to reconnect with your family.
I will likely not be posting again on this blog until after Christmas. I am going to slow my time spent on this and going to increase the time spent with my family. So let me wish each of you a Merry Christmas and the peace that the season brings. It is our hope and prayer at RealEstateIndustryWatch.com that you will find that piece to include time to unplug and reconnect with those around you.
And to Vladimir and his team in Belgrade, Andreas in Sweden, our clients, and all the many other people that I’ve been able to connect with this past year, thank you for making 2013 one of the best so far. It is a blessing for you to be in my life.
